Due to the coronavirus crisis, many people have found themselves away from work. The government has instructed all non-essential businesses to close to stop the spread of the virus. All Britons must remain at home unless for a medical need, vital shopping or one form of exercise per day. As a result, many employees have been placed on furlough – an extended period of unpaid leave – to provide job security in these uncertain times.
The financial journalist tweeted his belief the furlough scheme cut off date may have been extended to March 19, to replace February 28.
Previously, an employee had to be on the PAYE payroll in February to be eligible, however, the government has extended this offer.
In response, one social media user spoke of her experience as a supply teacher.
She wrote that the agency which employs her recently placed her on furlough.
