German discount grocer Aldi is preparing to open a supermarket in Walnut on Thursday, Feb. 27 as part of the company’s expansion plan to operate the third-largest number of U.S. supermarkets by the end of 2022.
A ribbon-cutting will be held at 8 a.m., followed by a giveaway in which gift cards will be given out to the first 100 customers. Shoppers who attend the event, at 21555 Valley Blvd., will be able to sample Aldi-branded foods and enter a drawing for a chance to win a year’s supply of Aldi produce.
Tom Cindel, the company’s Moreno Valley group director of operations and logistics, said the expansion is aimed at reaching new shoppers with deep discounts on products they use everyday.
“Everything we do is to save people money on the food and products they want most,” he said. “And we’re excited to officially introduce Walnut residents to the best grocery shopping experience.”
